Early Easter

Having an early Easter has thrown me off! Where is our spring weather?!

Here is what we've been up to the past week or so--

Frozen yogurt and spring colors.

A chilly walk.

Easter eggs with Liza's favorite big cousin.

The Easter baskets!

Cute baby basket.

Pink ears on my boy.

Easter bonnet courtesy of the Dollar Spot at Target.

I'll be back with a post tomorrow and will pick back up next week with regular posts!!

Salt Writing

Materials:

  • Cookie Sheet
  • Salt
Procedure:
  • Spread a thin layer of salt on the cookie sheet.
  • Show your kiddo how to use his/her pointer finger to draw and write in the salt.

Since this was Liza's first time doing this activity, I kept it simple.

I demonstrated how to make an uppercase L and asked her to try.

She did it!

She practiced making squiggles,  smiley faces, and hand prints.

There are so many ways you can extend and adapt this simple activity! Right now, Liza is using cookie cutters to "stamp" a shape in the salt.

Sorry for another short post!

Enjoy your weekend.

Belle

Dear Friends,

Today I want to tell you about a little girl named Belle.

Belle is also from Rhode Island and her mom is also a blogger.

She is my Liza's age. Not even three years old.

Her world was rocked right before Christmas when she was diagnosed with Leukemia.

LEUKEMIA.

Her mom isn't debating preschools like I am. She isn't stressed out over bedtime battles or picky toddler eating habits.

She is scared of this journey her baby must endure.

She is adjusting to this new life her family must live.

She is believing that her baby will BEAT this illness.

PLEASE DONATE  and/or share this page on your facebook and twitter accounts.

Please help Belle and her family as they struggle to kick cancer out of their lives!

Check out Rhody Bloggers for Good for more details on the Sit-a-Thon to benefit Belle.

I promise to write a more detailed post about Belle and her journey as soon as I can sit down without two kids crying ;)

In the meantime, take a few minutes and read fellow RI Bloggers' posts at allofmenow and Queen of the Earth

Project 52: Week 12

Ironically enough today is the first day of Spring, and my project 52 theme this week is signs of Spring.

Well unfortunately there have been no signs of Spring yet here in Southern New England. BOO!!

We had snow yesterday, hoping it is the last day of snow we see until next winter. So the sign of Spring around here is the start of baseball season.

Shh..Red Sox fans!

Are there any signs of Spring where you live?

Egg shakers

Hi there! Hope your Monday is going well. This morning I did a quick Easter egg activity with my littles.

What you need:
Plastic Easter eggs
Rice or anything similar that will make a shaking noise
Tape

We filled the eggs halfway with Orzo then closed them and put tape around the opening. The kids love the noise they make, shaking them around using them as instruments around the house.

What activities are you doing with your kids? Please share below!

Baby Play

Happy Friday!

Don't forget that babies play too! Even brand new ones.

Mirrors are a great way to let your baby play! What's more exciting than a cute face staring back at you?

I leaned my cheap Target full length mirror against the wall and laid Will on a blanket.

He was intrigued!

Of course, this only lasted a few seconds, but with time he will become more interested and want to spend more time on his belly and back playing.

I'd love to find a spot in my house to make him a little permanent play area, but I'm not sure that is possible at the moment.

I can't wait to share more Montessori inspired infant play with you in the future!

Have a great weekend!

Easter Sensory Bin

This morning I set up Liza's Easter sensory bin while watching the snow fall outside.

We're ready for Spring!

I reused things I already had for this bin. Many of them were in last years bin.

I'll share with you everything in ours, but if you plan in making one use your imagination and make the best of things you have around the house.

Materials:
-Green yarn (I think I used Easter grass last year?)
-Plastic Easter eggs
-Dollar Store flower gems
-Pom poms
-Fake flowers
-kid tweezers
-Easter egg spoon/tong (I need a new one if anyone sees them let me know!!)
-Random baskets
-Bunny
-Easter books

So far, Liza has made Easter baskets, hid the eggs and gems in the "grass," and has filled the Easter eggs with the Pom poms.

Post pictures to our Facebook page if you make your own version!

XO Sarah

P.S. Hoping to have my laptop up and running this weekend. Cross your fingers!

Shamrock Sort

Hello!

Still blogging off my phone so I apologize for the quick, ill formatted post in advance :)
Another cheap & easy sorting activity today!

I hit up the Dollar Tree today and found some inspiration that should hopefully get me doing more learning games with Liza.

Materials:
-Foam shamrocks (you could cut them out of paper too)
-contact paper (you could use glue or just sort into bowls, etc.)

Procedure:
-Make two different sections. I drew a line line down the center of the contact paper.
-demonstrate how to sort ("This shamrock is sparkly. Should I put it under the plain shamrock or the sparkly one?").
-Let your kiddo get to work!

I started with a super simple sort. You can challenge your kiddo by adding another object (or a few more objects).

Here are some pictures.
