First, I would like to share with you my thought process and the reasons why I am doing this for my girl.
- Tot School is not really school :)
- I enjoy doing little activities with her and I love brainstorming things I can do with her.
- My intention is to present some new experiences for her and let her do with them what she would like.
- I intend to keep these projects/activity child led and not mommy led.
- My main intention is to have fun and possibly practice some early learning skills.
- I am a firm believer that children learn through play. This means that my planning and ideas might sometimes go out the window and will more than likely be adapted during the process. We have to keep things fun!
I tried to incorporate at least one activity for each of the main categories of early learning skills: gross/fine motor, literacy, math, science, art, and sensory. Most activities/experiences flow together and compliment each other and the best part is that all of these things are super simple and can be tweaked for older and/or younger children.

This sounds like fun! I hope it goes well. I often got/get carried away with planning, executing MY ideas, and get disappointed when the kids don't want to participate. As they get older (Gwen especially), I need to find a balance of letting them play but teaching them to be disciplined.
ReplyDeleteWe started "school" a couple weeks ago and are doing a literature-based program which, so far, seems a bit easier to plan than the letter-a-week program I did last year. I pull a separate element from the week's story to do each day - for instance, one day we do social studies/geography, another we do science, etc. I try to pick fun things to coincide with the story, like making a fun meal or dessert or taking a field trip. This week the story involves lighthouses so I hope to take the kids to Beavertail.
We went peach-picking today, but that was just for fun!

DeleteWhen I taught, I always enjoyed using literature based programs over anything else. Way more fun and so easy to make connections between all aspects of early learning. Oh, and I could easliy get carried away with the planning, but I am trying hard to remember that she is TWO! And two year olds aren't school-aged yet.
How are you feeling? When are you due again?

I'm feeling a lot better than I did in the 1st trimester... but when I walk around too much my hips and back already hurt. :( Eh, due dates are overrated, but I'm due in Feb. I'm hoping I go early again like I did with Josiah, otherwise they'll probably recommend an induction. *sigh*
