What's In My Hospital Bag

I decided it was time to get my bag ready for the hospital. I am now 37 weeks so technically I could go at any time. I am so ready to meet my baby boy!

I wanted a bag that wasn't too small or too big. My trusty Adidas bag was missing, but I finally found it :) I am so glad I did!

Here is what is inside for baby boy:

  • 2 side snap onesies. I remember using these with Liza so I figured I might this time too. He'll be snuggled in this, a diaper, and a soft blanket until we go home.
  • Knit hat to keep his tiny head warm. Liza wore the same one in the hospital.
  • Nightgown just in case I want to dress him.
  • Going home outfit.
  • 2 pairs soft socks
  • Pacifier
  • Aden & Anais swaddle blanket (I am sooo excited to use it!)
***Update***

I used everything that I packed and sent the hubby home for another swaddle blanket and another outfit. We were in the hospital during the coldest days we have had in a long, long time so I wanted some little pants and extra socks to help keep Will nice and warm.

Here is what is inside for me:

Pair of pj's in a size up from what I normally wear. I remember feeling so bloated last time.
  • Nursing tank, a few pairs of "granny panties" (the mesh ones from the hospital never fit me), and socks.
  • Flip flops for the shower
  • Sweatpants and a hoodie to wear home.
  • Makeup Bag with just the essentials-cover up, blush, mascara, eyeliner, elastics/bobby pin, contact stuff, etc. (Don't forget your moisturizer like I did!)
  • Toiletry Bag with my shampoo, conditioner, brush & mini blow dryer, body wash, and deodorant.
  • Nook and charger (I plan on sending the hubby home at night to be with Liza so maybe I'll have time to pretend I am reading?)
  • Big sister gift for Liza
***Update***

I used everything I packed. I am very proud of myself for not overpacking! Woohoo! If there is a next time, I will be sure to have a water bottle with me for the hospital room. I hate drinking out of those flimsy plastic cups. Oh, and I did regret not bringing my Boppy with me. Thankfully, my hubby grabbed it on one of his trips home. I didn't use it with Liza, but it was very helpful this time around with Will.

I think I'll leave my purse and take a small tote bag with me to the labor room. Here is what I think I'll take with me:
  • Small case with chap stick, glasses, contact case, bobby pins & elastic.
  • Baby book for footprints
  • Camera
  • Phone charger
  • Possibly a few snacks for my husband & an extra shirt
  • Wallet (at least my ID)
***UPDATE***

I was in the labor room for less than 3 hours (thank you, God!) so I didn't need much. We used our cell phones, camera, and baby book. If I would have been in there longer than I am pretty sure I would have used everything in the bag!
What did you take with you?

XOXO Sarah

  1. Pretty much exactly what you brought, separated the same way!! I brought magazines for the labor room, too, in case I had any wait time in there. (Although, the one time I did, I took a quick 20 min nap.) Wow- i remember packing these things like it was yesterday! Best wishes to you!!!

  2. I packed the same things. Except I also packed my ipod and a dock for it, I had it on during labor and once we were in our room. It was so nice to have and made the room so peaceful! I also packed snacks! And snacks for Emily while she was visiting! I feel like I was just there having J! Crazy how quickly it went by! Best wishes and I can't wait to meet the little guy!

  3. Bring charger for the camera too. And bring a second A&A blanket just in case it gets dirty, etc. so you have enough for your stay. And a good sense of humor for whatever doesn't go as planned (learned that one when M was born). Good luck!

  5. I forgot chapstick and shampoo the first time around! The second time I remembered. I also brought a CD to play in the L&D room. They had CD players in there. I suppose now you could just turn on your iTunes or Spotify! Now i feel like it was forever ago that I had my kids!

  12. Oh goodness, I'm trying to think back... I didn't pack a LOT, but I also remember asking Phil to bring something back for me (slippers and a bathrobe, if I remember correctly). I didn't get much done other than holding the baby, writing in the baby book, flipping through TV channels because I couldn't sleep. I forgot shampoo 'n' stuff, probably because I was hoping I could just go home, but maybe I'll remember this time around. I brought a few clothing items for the baby, a blanket, camera, soothing CD, chapstick (I used this a lot during labor because my lips kept getting so dry), comfy pants and nursing tops. What's your big sister gift for Liza? I want to make doll carriers for the kiddos so they can carry their "babies" while I'm carrying mine. Let's just see if I can get it done! Since Josiah was three weeks early, I'm going to be ready by then! We were told we shouldn't leave anything too valuable, like the camera, so I think I had Phil bring it back and forth so it wouldn't get stolen if I fell asleep or something. I didn't bother packing extra stuff for Phil and Gwen because they weren't with me the whole time and could get them at home or pick them up along the way.

  14. I can't even remember what I packed. But I remember I forgot to get slippers (I never wore them at home) and they didn't want me walking around without them.

  16. My bag was very similar! I delivered in a hospital that has labor/delivery/recovery rooms though so I never had to leave. I love the Aden & Anais blankets! OH and I forgot flip-flops both times. I'm putting in my mental list for when we go for a third. :)

  17. I remember doing a very similar bag. I did have some aromatherapy with me in case I felt anxious. Some lavender. This time I will probably bring my iPad too. :)
